Grassroots or Astroturf?

The Rainforest Action Network is a grassroots organization that works to protect endangered forests and the rights of individuals who live near these areas, and to sustain economies. For example in The Truth About Coal article printed in the New York Times magazine. It was written that members of this advocacy protested in New York where Merrill Lynch has their branch office. The protesters called themselves "Billionaires for Coal" as they wore top hats and carried bags of coal to promote awarness of Merrill Lynch's contribution in financing TXU's plans to build atleast a dozen coal-fired power plants in Texas. Merrill Lynch was the focus of their protest for one reason: thier mission statement suggests "environmental excellence".
